As spring turns into summer, I’m really going to miss my old friend.
In May of this year I signed up to taste 101 beers at a local bar, and I managed to get through 70 or so by dropping in each week on my way home for a hamburger, chips and three or four of the world’s finest beers. I fell in love with Belgian ales such as Chimay Blue and Duvel along with the Belgian-styled beers of Unibroue.
While not drinking beer is one of my rules, I have allowed myself occasions where I can waive that rule and get stuck in. The next is my work’s Christmas party at the end of November, and I’m already excited. We’re going away for a weekend and my mind is already racing with what I can take along. I saw slabs of Japanese Kirin at the bottle shop a while ago which are fantastic in the heat, but they are pricey and I don’t want to have leftovers hanging around afterwards to tempt me.
After that, I’m expecting the Australian summer to be my worst temptation yet. But I’ll stay strong!
